Advancing Biotechnology Breakthroughs

A Workshop hosted by the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation(CRDF) joined by The Foundation for Russian American Economic Cooperation (FRAEC); Explore Life; Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).

Sunday, February 15
1:45 3:15
Workshop Room B
Washington State Convention and Trade Center Level 4C

Overview: The CRDF will convene the panel of experts below to discuss new approaches to international scientific cooperation. The discussion will consider the role of public private partnerships in addressing global health challenges such as HIV/AIDS.

Gerson Sher, President, CRDF: The CRDF's efforts in forging partnerships to advance scientific discovery. Why are we looking outside the traditional mechanisms and funding sources to address global challenges?

Carol Vipperman, President, FRAEC: The CRDF-FRAEC-ExploreLife partnership as a model for new approaches to NGO cooperation.

Maura O'Neill, President, Explore Life: Biotechnology breakthroughs will require the best science, whether it be in Seattle or Singapore or Moscow. Why scientists and industry need to look beyond their own laboratories.

Carol Kessler, Director, Center for Global Security Battelle/PNNL: The Center is uniquely suited to promote international collaboration in biotechnology through its partnerships with local, regional and national government, NGOs, international organizations and in the future, foreign governments.
