Fisher Scientific launches EinsteinsGarage: buyers and sellers get deals on surplus science equipment

Alchematrix, Inc., the wholly owned e-commerce subsidiary of Fisher Scientific International Inc. (NYSE: FSH), today announced the launch of EinsteinsGarage, www.einsteinsgarage.com, an online public auction site for surplus and discounted scientific research and laboratory equipment. With fully integrated business-to-business capabilities, EinsteinsGarage will provide services for customers in the $67 billion worldwide research, U.S. healthcare, safety and science education markets.

"EinsteinsGarage gives scientists, researchers, educators and hobbyists an ideal online auction site that offers them significant savings on a vast array of products, including everything from test tubes to spectrophotometers," said Paul Montrone, chairman and chief executive officer of Fisher Scientific International. "We've created a cyberspace marketplace that fulfills the needs of both buyers and sellers in surplus, obsolete and used products in the scientific research, safety, and clinical supply markets."

The auction site enables buyers such as scientists and educators, who typically face budget constraints, to locate and buy a wide selection of lab supplies and equipment at significantly reduced prices. At the same time, EinsteinsGarage provides sellers a way to efficiently manage their surplus inventory by turning their excess or used lab equipment into cash. Representing $8 million in product inventory, some 12,000 items currently are available on the site.
