Livermore Lab hosts conference on Bioterrorism for the Courts

Who: More than 100 justices from state supreme courts and federal courts and scientists from across the nation will gather at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

What: A conference on "Bioterrorism, Biological Attack and the Courts." Justices will be available to speak about the conferences intent and its benefits to the judicial system. A number of presentations will be available for the media to attend, among them: "The FBI Counterterrorism Effort and Connection With Courts," and "What Really Happened at the Supreme Court? Panel Experience of Courts of National Capital Area Under Anthrax Attack."

The conference is sponsored by the Einstein Institute for Science, Health and the Courts, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Conference of Chief Justices.

When: Saturday, January 19, 2002, 8 a.m.-noon.

Where: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; check in at Southgate, off East Avenue.

Why: The conference will help the courts prepare for and respond to attack upon the judicial system by terrorists using biological weapons of mass destruction. The conference will also educate and update justices so they may make rulings on issues that may come up in the courts.
