Posters highlight water, energy and other natural resource research

Graduate students, pursuing their Doctorates in several different science and engineering disciplines, presented posters highlighting research being conducted in many areas at the fourth annual Inland Northwest Research Alliance Environmental and Subsurface Science Symposium, held Sept. 19-22 at the Davenport Hotel, Spokane, WA.

More than 30 posters were entered by both INRA and non-INRA university students and three winners were presented cash awards totaling $1,750. W. Robert Bolton of the University of Alaska Fairbanks was awarded first place and Lawrence L. Cook of Idaho State University came in second. Third place was awarded to Abigail Aiken representing Washington State University.

INRA is a non-profit scientific and educational organization. INRA ranks eighth in the nation in terms of research funding among larger institutions of higher education. The Alliance was created to promote new opportunities for research and education that will benefit the region and nation in a variety of technical disciplines. INRA Universities include Boise State, Washington State, Utah State, Montana State and Idaho State Universities and the Universities of Alaska Fairbanks, Idaho and Montana.

INRA partners with Bechtel and BWXT, Inc., in the management and operations contract for Idaho's INEEL, operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). INRA's roles in this contract include the support of collaborative basic and applied research programs between its member universities and the INEEL staff by funding several diverse multi-year research projects in the critical mission areas of the Laboratory, including Environment Management, Energy Sciences and National Security.
