STN International launches Derwent World Patents Index First View

This release is also available in German

Karlsruhe, Germany -- FIZ Karlsruhe, one of Europe's leading providers of information services, and European partner of premier science and technology online service STN International, has launched Derwent World Patents Index First ViewSM (DWPI First ViewSM) on STN International.

DWPI First ViewSM is the new alerting companion file to Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) -- the comprehensive database of value-added patent information. For the first time, DWPI users are able to access previews of the latest published patent documents in advance of their inclusion in Derwent World Patents Index. Searching DWPI First ViewSM in combination with Derwent World Patents Index provides them with a comprehensive and timely overview of global patenting activity.

"We are delighted to partner with Thomson Derwent to offer STN users this new patent alerting service," commented Rainer Stuike-Prill, Head of Marketing at FIZ Karlsruhe. "We feel confident that the advance previews of Derwent World Patent Index offered through DWPI First ViewSM will be an invaluable resource for the scientific community."

"DWPI First ViewSM answers our customer's need for early identification of new patent documents and comprehensive coverage. By searching DWPI First ViewSM and DWPI in tandem, customers will receive a complete picture of activity from the patent issuing authorities," said Brian Tyler, Executive Vice President of Corporate Markets, Thomson Scientific. "This comprehensive resource provides the timely data professionals need to monitor emerging technologies, identify leading inventors, and protect their R & D investments."

Released on March 28th, DWPI First ViewSM is available on STN in the WPIFV file. Records will contain enhanced bibliographic data for all new patent documents, along with original titles, abstracts, technical drawing images,
