Southern Appalachian Man and the Biosphere (SAMAB) 14th Annual Conference

The Southern Appalachian region faces a host of interrelated issues, from air quality to invasive species. The SAMAB conference brings together professionals and concerned citizens to learn, network, and brainstorm the solutions to these problems.

Call for Participants:

To participate in this year's conference, please send an abstract (see sample on website) of the short talk, panel discussion, workshop, film/video, poster, or other presentation. We encourage you to address one of the following subthemes:

  • Appalachian heritage as an economic opportunity

  • Prescribed fire and ecosystem restoration

  • Facing the threat of the hemlock woolly adelgid

  • Dealing with invasive plants

  • Managing growth around protected areas

  • Environmental monitoring by communities and citizens

  • Protecting and restoring Southern Appalachian streams and rivers

  • Mapping and GIS for planning and protection

Include with your abstract the subtheme and type of presentation proposed, name, address, organization, phone, fax, email address, and audio and/or space requirements. Submissions should be made by September 5, 2003. You will receive notification about acceptance by mid-September.
