Symposium on emerging diseases and bioterrorism

Dec. 5 and 6, Thursday and Friday -- Experts from France and the U.S. will discuss diseases such as smallpox, influenza, Ebola virus and plague, and how these threats can be countered, at a two day symposium,"Emerging Infectious Diseases and Bioterrorism: Regional Threats, Global Impact" at UC Davis. Keynote speakers include Donald A. Henderson, Director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and former director of the World Health Organization's smallpox eradication campaign; and Rita Colwell, Director of the National Science Foundation. The symposium is sponsored by the Consulate General of France, San Francisco; the Merieux Foundation, Lyon, France; Merial, U.S.; the UC Davis Center for Comparative Medicine; and the UC Davis Health System Continuing Medical Education program.
