Texas chemist wins national award for vitamin, other natural products research

"Then I realized at some point that the underlying logic in pharmacy was chemistry," he said. He went on to receive undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry from the University of Glasgow in 1949 and 1952.

The Nakanishi Prize, named for the Japanese-American chemist who pioneered techniques to study natural products, is sponsored by the Nakanishi Prize Endowment. It is awarded in alternating years by the American Chemical Society and the Chemical Society of Japan.
