UK biotechnology business plan competition now open to students in the US and Canada

What: The UK-based competition is now open to students in the US and Canada to help strengthen the transatlantic bonds between the countries and provide students and researchers who have no business background an opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship and commercialization.

Who: The British Council, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in the UK and the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council

Where: Workshops and Final Competition to be held in the United Kingdom

When: Final Application Deadline: July 23
Teams Notified: August 16
Workshops: September 15 17 or September 29 October 1
Final Competition: December 13

The competition is FREE to enter--travel, accommodation and meals are provided.

Teams from the US and Canada will be selected to attend a three-day workshop held in the UK. The workshop will include presentations from leading figures in the UK biotech industry on intellectual property, international funding and investment, financial planning, commercial and marketing strategies and an evaluation of market potential. There also will be a mentoring session from industry experts to help the teams generate their business plans. Each team will then devise a business plan for their imaginary biotech start-up company (can be based on hypothetical or actual science.) The winning team from North America will receive $1,000.
