2006 International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases

Journalists are invited to attend and cover the 2006 International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases (ICEID), to be held March 19-22, 2006, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The meeting is being organized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Society for Microbiology, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, the Association of Public Health Laboratories and the World Health Organization.

The International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases was first convened in 1998; ICEID 2006 marks its fifth occurrence. The conference brings together public health professional to encourage the exchange of scientific and public health information on global emerging infectious disease issues. The program will include plenary and panel sessions with invited speakers as well as oral and poster presentations on emerging infections. Major topics include current work on surveillance, epidemiology, research, communication and training, bioterrorism, and preventions and control of emerging infectious diseases, both in the United States and abroad. The conference will begin with an opening session at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 and conclude at noon on Wednesday, March 22.

Of Special Note: The conference will be immediate preceded by the International Conference on Women and Infectious Diseases (March 16-18) and followed by the International Conference on Emerging Zoonoses (March 22-24).

Comprehensive media facilities will be available for the ICEID. The press center will be located in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Programs, abstracts, news releases and information about daily press activities will be available. A limited number of complimentary press registrations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
