The Symposium will bring together five distinguished panelists, representing various organizations, presenting the following:
"Defense of United States Agriculture and Food," John Hoffman, representing the Department of Homeland Security
"Information Exchange Between Government, Industry and Academia in the Era of al Qaeda," Robert Norton, Auburn Univ., representing the Federation of Animal Science Societies
"Agricultural Biosecurity: The Mission of the National Plant Diagnostic Network," James Stack, Kansas State Univ., representing the National Plant Diagnostic Network
"The Roles of Professional Societies in U.S. Plant Biosecurity," Jacqueline Fletcher, Oklahoma State Univ., representing the American Phytopathological Society
"Biosecurity: A Perspective from the American Society for Microbiology," Anne Vidaver, Univ. of Nebraska-Lincoln, representing the American Society for Microbiology
The role of researchers in the nation's response to threats will also be discussed. Presiding over the symposium is Harold Balbach of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center.
