Biophysical Society announces winners of 2007 International Travel Awards

The Biophysical Society has announced the winners of its international travel grants to attend the Society's 51st annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, March 3-7, 2007. The purpose of these awards is to foster and initiate further interaction between American biophysicists and scientists working in countries experiencing financial difficulties. Recipients of this competitive award are chosen based on scientific merit and their proposed presentation at the meeting. They will be honored at a reception on March 3, 2007.

The 2007 recipients of the International Travel Award are:

  • Yuri Antonenko, Moscow State University, Russian Federation, "Electrostatics Determines Surface Diffusion of Polylysine Bound to Lipids of Bilayer Membrane as Shown by Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy."

  • Piotr Bednarczyk, Agricultural University SGGW, Warsaw, Poland, "pH and Nucleotide Modulation of Mitochondrial ATP-regulated Potassium Channel."

  • Marcia Perez dos Santos Cabrera, IBILCE - UNESP, So Jos do Rio Preto, "Evidence for Pores or Channels in the Activity of a Mastoparn Peptide on Vesicles and BLMs."

  • Ingrid Carvacho, Centro de Estudios Cientficos, Valdivia, Chile, "External Surface Charge Neutralization induces Outward Rectification on the Calcium- and Voltage-activated Potassium Channel BK."

  • Griselda Casas-Pruneda, School of Medicine, UASLP, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, "Functional Cross-Regulation of Murine Salivary Gland P2X4 and P2X7 Receptors."

  • Edgardo A. Disalvo, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, "Water of Hydration and Confined Water are Relevant for the Structural and Functional Properties of Biomembranes."
