Biophysical Society announces winners of 2007 Student Travel Awards

The Biophysical Society has announced the winners of its student travel award to attend the Society's 51st Annual Meeting in Baltimore Maryland, March 3-7th, 2007. The recipients of this competitive award are selected based on scientific merit, with priority given to those who will present a paper at the conference. Each awardee receives a travel grant and will be recognized at a reception on Saturday, March 3, 2007.

The 2007 recipients of the Student Travel Award are:

  • Youval Ben Abou, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Activation Gating of Potassium Channel Pores is Controlled by Hydrophobic Interactions.

  • Dovart Brass, Tel-Aviv University, Ramat-Aviv, Point mutation in the HCN4 Cardiac Ion Channel Pore is associated with Familial Sinus Bradycardia.

  • Esther Caballero-Manrique, University of Oregon, Langevin Equation Approach to Bridge Different Timescales of Relaxation in Protein Dynamics.

  • Hanning Chen, University of Utah, Proton Transport and Gating Mechanisms in Proton Channels.

  • Jaime L. Curtis, Michigan State University, Structural Analysis of Membrane-Associated Influenza Fusion Protein by Solid State NMR.

  • Gregory J. Digby, Medical College of Georgia, Some Heterotrimeric G-proteins Dissociate After Receptor Activation.

  • Yuntao Duan, University of Rochester, Ca2+-dependent Generation of Mitochondrial Reactive Oxygen Species Serves as a Signal for Poly(ADP-Ribose) Polymerase-1 Activation during Glutamate Excitotoxicity.

  • Sharon Gilead, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Uncovering Nature's Route for Amyloid Prevention: Molecular Mapping of the Recognition Interface of Islet Amyloid Polypeptide and Insulin.

  • Anika Grutzner, University of Muenster, Potential for Disulphide-Bridge Formation and Phosphorylation-Dependent Modification of Mechanical Properties in the N2B-Do
