Conference celebrates ten years of transdisciplinary education and research

The Society for Design and Process Science (SDPS) announces the Ninth Conference on Integrated Design and Process Technology (IDPT), to be held in San Diego, California, June 25-30, 2006. The theme of this year's conference is "Innovation through Transdisciplinary Design and Application." The general and program chairs, Drs. Azad Madni, Phil Sheu and Atila Ertas and the Program Committee Members have put together an exciting technical program featuring prominent invited speakers, keynote panels, plenary sessions, special workshops, and technical sessions that address many of the concerns in transdisciplinary research and education. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to hear about advances made by scientists and engineers from different disciplines, and how these advances might apply to other fields of interest.

This year, the conference celebrates a decade of transdisciplinary education and research. IDPT began as an international conference designed to explore the sciences of a new millennium. This year, IDPT continues with this mission by addressing a range of important topics, including: systems architecting, cognitive engineering, system-of-systems engineering, healthcare engineering, software agent technologies, software engineering, and much more. The workshops this year will cover transdisciplinary approaches grounded in such diverse fields as system biology, software engineering, and technology commercialization. The conference specifically confronts and discusses those challenges that can be effectively overcome using transdisciplinary approaches.

These days, transdisciplinary approaches are becoming increasingly more evident in new technology creation, and product design, even as transdisciplinary education becomes increasingly more critical to future science and engineering curricula. The products of the future that are on the drawing board today will be characterized by complex, multi-faceted designs that will require transdisci
