Faculty of 1000 Biology, the award-winning literature awareness service for the life sciences, today launches its much anticipated Pharmacology & Drug Discovery Faculty. The world's top pharmacologists will highlight and evaluate the most important research articles in their field. This new faculty is headed by world-renowned pharmacologists Floyd Bloom & Paul Insel and comprises 14 sections; each led by top scientists in those fields.
"Making use of the essential advances outside your own specialist subject area can mean the difference between success and failure. Faculty of 1000 Biology now offers a timely guide by key opinion leaders to the important developments in any area of Pharmacology & Drug Discovery, joining, by popular demand, coverage of the rest of Biology," says Dave Weedon, Managing Director of Faculty of 1000 Biology.
Faculty head Floyd Bloom is a past Editor-in-Chief of Science and Professor Emeritus at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla. He welcomes the development of the Pharmacology & Drug Discovery Faculty, "No one can keep up with the literature, so having colleagues point out the recent important advances in unfamiliar areas is enormously useful."
Faculty head Paul Insel is Professor of Pharmacology and Medicine and Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program, University of California, San Diego. For him, the value of this new service is clear, "In the current era, science moves too fast and the literature is too vast for any of us to be 'ahead of the curve'. Faculty of 1000 helps busy, engaged scientists to navigate the rapidly changing scientific road. This is particularly the case in the broad worlds of Pharmacology and Drug Discovery."
These respected leaders in the field have helped recruit over 200 experts to act as Section Heads and Faculty Members. A full list of the researchers involved in this new faculty is available on the Faculty of 1000 Biology website <
