Presidential Recognition Awards presented at the 2007 AIUM Annual Convention

Lennard D. Greenbaum, MD, president of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), announced the recipients of the 2007 Presidential Recognition Award during the Leadership Banquet at the 2007 AIUM Annual Convention in New York City. Awards were presented to Mary Frates, MD for her work with the AIUM Clinical Standards Committee, and to the AIUM Contrast Ultrasound Team for the effort and expertise they provided towards the goal of ultrasound contrast agent approval in the US.

This prestigious award honors outstanding contributions and service to the AIUM and to the broader ultrasound community. Its recipients are extremely active within the organization, frequently as committee chairs, and their names remain secret until the presentation ceremony.

Dr Frates has been involved in the AIUM Clinical Standards Committee for the last 7 years and has chaired the committee since 2004. Dr Frates is an AIUM fellow who has been a member since 1991 and has served the association in many capacities as well. AIUM President Lennard Greenbaum, MD, thanked Dr Frates for her service to the AIUM as well as her commitment to collaboration and production of our organization's guidelines.

The second award was presented to the AIUM Contrast Ultrasound Team, a group of individuals who have been actively working to set the stage for the US Food and Drug Administration's review and ultimate approval of contrast agent use in the United States. The members of the AIUM Contrast Ultrasound Team include Peter Burns, MD, Joshua Copel, MD, David Cosgrove, MD, J. Brian Fowlkes, PhD, Barry Goldberg, MD, Lennard Greenbaum, MD, Robert Mattrey, MD, Daniel Merton, BS, RDMS, Michelle Robbin, MD, and Stephanie Wilson, MD.
