'Sharing Miracles' Television Program to Feature North Carolina State Women's Basketball Coach Kay Yow
Date:2/1/2008

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This month, Sharing Miracles -- a 30-minute public affairs television program that tells the compelling and inspirational stories of real patients -- will feature North Carolina State University women's basketball coach Kay Yow, the fifth winningest active women's coach in NCAA Division I.

Coach Yow has achieved a tremendous legacy as a women's basketball coach, guiding the Wolfpack to four ACC tournament titles, 11 trips to the Sweet 16, and one trip to the Final Four, and also coaching the 1988 Olympic gold-medal winning U.S. team. She is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and, in 2007, was honored with the inaugural Jimmy V ESPY Award for perseverance.

Though Coach Yow is best known for her battles on the court, Sharing Miracles host Billy Tauzin -- a former Congressman and a cancer survivor who is now the President and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) -- speaks with her about her battle off the court with breast cancer, which she is currently fighting for the third time. The episode also includes interviews with Coach Yow's sister Deborah Yow, the athletic director at the University of Maryland, College Park, and Phyllis Greenberger, MSW, the President and CEO of the Society for Women's Health Research.

In this month's show, Couch Yow offers some insight into her attitude: "If life kicks you, make sure it kicks you forward." She adds, "Cancer is an example. I have 100 percent control over how I will choose to respond, and I've been fortunate because I've been able to learn how to deal with a lot of pressures on the court. It's definitely helped me."

Previous episodes of Sharing Miracles have featured former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, who is battling colon cancer; syndicated television talk show host Montel Williams, a multiple sclerosis sufferer; and Telemundo personality Mayte Prida. Future programs will highli
