AAPS co-sponsors FDA science forum

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) is co-sponsoring the 2000 FDA Science Forum: "FDA and the Science of Safety: New Perspectives" with FDA and the FDA Chapter of Sigma Xi at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., February 14-15, 2000.

The FDA Science Forum is open to the public and will bring FDA research and review scientists together with representatives of industry, academia, government agencies, consumer groups, and the public to explore the scientific and practical issues related to the safety evaluation and risk management of FDA-regulated products.

"Speakers and panelists at this forum will address emerging issues in the safety assessment of foods, drugs, biologics and medical devices," said David Pang, Ph.D., AAPS Director of Scientific Affairs.

The forum will feature plenary lectures and focused discussion groups that include FDA, industry, and university leaders in the field on the following topics: research on errors in medical care, the food safety initiative, postmarket surveillance, contemporary issues in risk assessment, women's health and the science of gender differences, and risk assessment communication.

A poster session featuring all areas of FDA regulatory science will be presented to provide an opportunity for interested scientists to engage in information exchange with FDA scientists.

For more information on this forum, including a complete preliminary program, registration fees, and accommodations, visit AAPS Online at http:www.aaps.org/edumeet/fdasf/index.html.
