WHY:
Peanut allergy is the leading cause of fatal and near-fatal food-induced anaphylaxis in the United States. Each year, thousands of people rush to hospital emergency rooms, and approximately 50 to 100 people die after accidentally eating peanuts. Anaphylactic reactions to peanut can occur at any age and strict avoidance is the only means of preventing an allergic reaction. The latest research presented in the JACI gives new hope to peanut allergy sufferers, while also calming some fears about the dangers of the allergy.
