Hansen to present the Gerontological Society of America's 2003 Maxwell A. Pollack Award lecture

Jennie Chin Hansen, executive director of San Francisco's On Lok organization, will present the 2003 Maxwell A. Pollack Award for Productive Living lecture at the 56th Annual Scientific Meeting of The Gerontological Society of America in San Diego, California.

The speech, titled "Uncovering and Discovering Synchronicity in Midlife," will take place on Sunday, November 23rd at 1:45 pm in the Torrey Room of the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina. The meeting itself is organized to foster interdisciplinary interactions among gerontological health care clinical, administrative, and research professionals.

Hansen won the prestigious Pollack award in 2002 and the recipient traditionally gives a lecture the following year. This prize, given annually, recognizes instances of practice informed by research and analysis, research that directly improved policy or practice, and distinction in bridging the worlds of research and practice.

On Lok is a not-for-profit family of organizations providing comprehensive primary, acute and long-term care community-based services to nearly 900 frail seniors throughout San Francisco. Hansen has been the executive director since 1993. She was recognized for the award based on her efforts to make the replication of the innovative On Lok system possible. She has insured that solid information is available to policymakers about both clinical and economic outcomes. Hansen enabled the program to flourish in the managed care environment and she has guided On Lok's development in the world comprehensive health and social services.

Individuals who are mid-career and actively engaged in the conception and development of innovative programs that demonstrate excellence in translating research into practical application or policy are eligible for this prize. The award is made possible through a generous grant from The New York Community Trust's Maxwell A. Pollack fund.
