The Journal of Sexual Medicine is the official publication of the International Society for Sexual and Impotence Research (ISSIR) and its regional affiliate societies: African Society for Sexual and Impotence Research (ASSIR), Asia Pacific Society for Sexual and Impotence Research (APSSIR), European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM), Latin American Society for the Study of Impotency and Sexuality (SLAIS), and Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA). Print and online versions of the journal are available. Researchers interested in submitting manuscripts to the journal may do so at http://njsm.issir.org.

The International Society for Sexual and Impotence Research (ISSIR) was founded in 1982 for the purpose of promoting research and exchange of knowledge for the clinical entity "impotence" throughout the international scientific community. The principal orientation of ISSIR was initially towards basic science of erection, defects in the erectile mechanism, and the clinical aspects of diagnosis and treatment of erectile dysfunction.
