International experts discuss latest research on vitamin E & health

More than 40 interdisciplinary researchers from Europe and Asia will gather in Boston from May 22-24 for the first major conference in 15 years devoted to the latest research on the impact and function of vitamin E on human health. The conference, sponsored by the New York Academy of Sciences, will be held at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University.

Scientists from Germany, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Japan, Italy, Australia, Switzerland, Turkey, and the U.S. will be covering such issues as:

    Vitamin E and Gene Expression in Immune Cells (May 22, 2:30 pm)

    Natural Vitamin E for the Nervous System? (May 22, 4:30 pm)

    Vitamin E and Oxidative Stress of Exercise (May 23, 8:30 am)

    The Role of Vitamin E in Photoprotection of the Skin (May 23, 9:30 am)

    Vitamin E and Respiratory Infections in the Elderly (May 23, 1 pm)

    The Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (May 23, 2 pm)

    Vitamin E in Neurodegenerative Disorders: Alzheimer's (May 23, 3:20 pm)

    Vitamin E and Cardiovascular Disease (May 24, 8:30 am)

    Future Directions in Preclinical Vitamin E Research (May 24, 10 am)

Conference organizers are Dr. Frank Kelly, School of Health and Life Sciences, King's College, London; Dr. Mohsen Meydani, Vascular Biology Laboratory, Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, Boston; and Dr. Lester Packer, Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Southern California.

The conference is being cosponsored by Cognis Nutrition and Health and BASF Aktiengesellschaft.
