The importance of meticulous measurements are essential to good science. But ensuring that correct methods are used is another story as well as the topic of a text edited by Somenath Mitra, PhD, professor of chemistry, at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

Sample Preparation Techniques in Analytical Chemistry (2003,Wiley) focuses on teaching and reinforcing necessary pretreatment steps used in various aspects in chemical sciences and engineering.

Topics include sample preparation in environmental and biological measurements, how to pretreat in microscopy, surface enhancement as a sample preparation tool, examples of concentration and clean-up methods and quality control steps. Both graduate and undergraduate students can benefit from the book, along with chemical professionals involved in laboratory work.
