Plant oils reduce levels of 'bad' cholesterol

"Cholesterol-Lowering Efficacy of a Sitostanol-Containing Phytosterol Mixture with a Prudent Diet in Hyperlipidemic Men," by Peter J. H. Jones, Fady Y. Ntanios, Mahmoud Raeini-Sarjaz, and Catherine A. Vanstone.

Plant oils may help improve the cholesterol profile of men with high blood cholesterol, according to a study in June 1999's American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. In the study, men who consumed a moderate-fat diet, including a specific type of plant oil, experienced 25% reductions in LDL, or "bad," cholesterol.
