Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association moves to Web-based rapid access weekly publication

Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association moves to Web-based rapid access weekly publication DALLAS, Oct. 15 The American Heart Association has launched Stroke ASAP, a rapid access publication that provides Internet publication ahead of print for journal articles from Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association.

"Stroke ASAP stands for timeliness and accuracy," says Editor-in-Chief Vladimir Hachinski, M.D. The journal will be published online weekly instead of monthly. Embargoes will remain the same 4 p.m., ET, Thursdays. Starting Oct. 11, all manuscripts will be scheduled for the rapid access publication. The first online issue will be Oct. 11 and will include an editorial about the new ASAP program. ASAP articles will appear online approximately one month before print publication.

Original clinical and basic science manuscripts accepted for publication in Stroke will be published online within four to nine days of the author's return of corrected proofs to the publisher, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, and in the print journal within five to six weeks.

Stroke ASAP means that articles undergo a normal review process, but once a manuscript is accepted and corrected proofs returned to the publisher, the time to publication is vastly reduced.

"In medicine, timeliness is important but accuracy is crucial. We are delighted to offer the articles to authors and our readers as soon as they are ready for publication in the identical form that will be printed four or five weeks later," he says.

"Subscribers to Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association will be getting their news on a weekly basis, instead of monthly. We also hope the online rapid access will mean that the journal can broaden its international scope, which is one of our major priorities, "says Hachinski. The journal accepts about 40 articles a month. With rapid access, there will be about 10-12 articles published weekly.
