The European Society of Cardiology launches Women at Heart

h CVD by the medical profession
  • Increased representation of women in clinical trials
  • Analysis of the ESC Euro Heart Survey databases to yield specific data on women and CVD, such as comparisons of the differences between women and men in specific disease and treatment areas across Europe, to offer better understanding of women's CVD overall

    Women at Heart will include the following events and activities, organised by the ESC:

    • Women at Heart messages to be sent to ESC members, comprising more than 45,000 medical professionals across 49 National Cardiac Societies, to increase awareness of the issues surrounding women and CVD, throughout 2005 and 2006
    • Policy Conference on CVD in Women to be at the European Heart House, 23-25 June, bringing together experts in the field of cardiology to formulate a scientific statement
    • Special focus on women and CVD at the upcoming ESC Congress, 3-7 September 2005, Stockholm, Sweden, Europe's largest medical meeting with over 25,000 attendees
    • Release of the Euro Heart Survey database analyses with incidence and treatment trends of women with CVD across Europe, Euro Heart Survey Symposium, ESC Congress 2005, to give insight into the differences in disease and treatment trends in women across Europe Special focus on women and CVD, including specific information on risk factor reduction through lifestyle improvements, at the ESC public event, 'For Your Heart's Sake', 2-3 September 2005, Stockholm, Sweden

    Professor Silvia Priori, of the Fondazione Salvatore Maugeri, Pavia, Italy, is the Chairperson of Women at Heart, as well as a member of the Board of the ESC.
