Top honor for head of Epilepsy Foundation

Eric R. Hargis, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Epilepsy Foundation, has been selected by the International Bureau for Epilepsy and the International League Against Epilepsy to receive an Ambassador for Epilepsy Award 2005 during the 26th International Epilepsy Congress in August.

The Ambassador for Epilepsy awards of IBE/ILAE are intended as recognition of outstanding achievement in the international struggle against epilepsy. Candidates, chosen by the Joint Executive Committee of IBE/ILAE every two years, must have made a commitment "above and beyond the call of duty", either voluntarily or professionally, in the field of epilepsy.

Hargis, who has over 25 years of experience with national voluntary health agencies, is the immediate past chair of the National Health Council; a, member of the Board of Community Health Charities, and vice president of the International Bureau for Epilepsy.

The International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) was established in 1961 as an organization of laypersons and professionals interested in the medical and non-medical aspects of epilepsy. The IBE addresses such social problems as education, employment, insurance, driving license restrictions and public awareness. The Bureau also works in close liaison with the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE), an organization of medical professionals involved in the medical and scientific issues of epilepsy.
