Visionaries who pioneered modern cataract surgery to present at AAO's Annual Meeting

SAN FRANCISCO The American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Eye M.D. Association, invites its members to attend a free retrospective spotlight session titled "Phacoemulsification: 35 Years Later," at its Annual Meeting, Monday, November 17, 2003, from 6:00. to 7:30 p.m. in Ballroom C of the Anaheim Convention Center.

This new evening session will feature the "Father of Phaco," Charles D. Kelman, MD, and seven other world-renowned doctors who influenced the practice of cataract surgery. The other doctors are: Richard D. Kratz, MD; Robert M. Sinskey, MD; Manus C. Kraff, MD; Robert H. Osher, MD; Samuel Masket, MD; Richard L. Lindstrom, MD; and Stephen S. Lane, MD. The session will be introduced by H. Dunbar Hoskins Jr., MD, Executive Vice President of the Academy. The session will trace the development and evolution of the phacoemulsification technique and speculate on the future of cataract surgery.

Following this unique session, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., a reception will be held at which attendees will have the opportunity to meet some of these leaders in cataract and refractive surgery.
