55th Annual ACC Scientific Session ushers in breakthroughs in cardiology research

BETHESDA, MD (February 7, 2006) World-renowned practicing cardiologists will be gathering for the 55th Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), taking place March 11-14 at the Georgia World Congress Center. More than 28,000 attendees from around the world are expected at this year's meeting where presentations will focus on exciting new breakthroughs such as the latest procedures and diagnostics, the future of cholesterol-fighting statin drugs, the promise of new stem cell therapies and key late-breaking clinical trials within the cardiovascular field.

Linking together research and clinical practice, ACC.06 will facilitate international collaboration regarding global health issues and challenges related to cardiovascular care and vascular disease prevention. With more than 1,800 abstracts being presented, ACC.06 will provide a window into the cutting edge research taking place worldwide.

"ACC.06 delivers the rigorous science and clinical relevance attendees expect every year in a manner designed to deliver that content effectively and efficiently," said Pamela S. Douglas, M.D., F.A.C.C., president of ACC.

Expert instructors will be covering several key areas:

  • Ischemic heart disease
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiac risk factors and secondary prevention
