FNSNA awards $25,000 grant to Rutgers College of Nursing

(NEWARK, N.J., March 26, 2007) The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association (FNSNA) awarded a $25,000 Promise of Nursing for New Jersey Nursing School grant to the College of Nursing at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, one of seven New Jersey nursing schools to receive this grant.

The grant is aimed at providing undergraduate nursing students with additional supervised time in the evening and during the weekend to use the College of Nursing Learning Resource Centers on the Newark and New Brunswick campuses and to receive tutoring, when needed, for identified nursing courses.

"The additional faculty that will be covered by this funding will be master's prepared nurses from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) who would like to obtain teaching experience. This is a wonderful way for the College of Nursing to expand its partnership with RWJUH," said Wendy Nehring, associate dean for academic affairs and director of the graduate program.

"These nurses will also receive complimentary admission to the post-master's nursing education course that is offered by the Rutgers College of Nursing Center for Professional Development this summer," said Nehring, a Clifton, N.J. resident.

The FNSNA was created in memory of National Student Nurses' Association's first executive director, Frances Tompkins. The Promise of Nursing Regional Scholarship Program, administered by the FNSNA, provides undergraduate and graduate nursing scholarships and grants.
