Institute of Medicine advisory: Drug safety news conference September 26

Recent recalls of prescription drugs and other events have led to concerns about how well the drug safety system monitors and addresses the safety of prescription medications after they reach the market. THE FUTURE OF DRUG SAFETY: PROMOTING AND PROTECTING THE HEALTH OF THE PUBLIC, a new report from the Institute of Medicine, assesses the system's strengths and shortcomings and offers a plan for improving the evaluation of medications on an ongoing basis. The report will be released at a one-hour news conference on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
