Media invitation: 4th International Conference on Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Medicine

You are invited to attend the world's only conference on cancer and the adolescent. Organised by Teenage Cancer Trust, the two-day conference will see leading specialists from around the world present new research findings to the conference on incidence, possible causes for adolescent cancer, treatment and survival (including the dearth of clinical trials for this age group), effects on future fertility, and problems of compliance with treatment.

They will discuss difficult or controversial topics such as routine vaccination against HPV for girls, whether or not health insurance in countries that do not have a free national health service actually buys better treatment for young people, and why it is that more teenagers and young adults are developing cancer now than ever before.

Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) is a pioneering UK charity that was established to focus on the most neglected group of cancer patients teenagers and young adults. As a result of the Trust's work, the UK is the only country in the world to have a programme of developing specialist units for adolescents. Currently, there are seven TCT units, but a further 15 are needed to ensure that every adolescent with cancer in the UK has access to one. TCT expects a 15% increase in survival rates as a result of the concentration of expertise within the units. Other countries are now beginning to follow the UK's lead.

Registration is free for bona fide UK and international media. You are welcome to attend all conference sessions on the 30 and 31 March. There will be a news briefing for the media at 10.30am on Wednesday 29 March with key speakers and patients at the Royal College of Physicians.
