Neurology Now, patient magazine of American Academy of Neurology, wins national award

ST. PAUL, Minn. Neurology Now, the new patient magazine from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), has won the Award of Excellence in the 2005 Associations Advance America Awards program, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives of Washington, D.C.

Neurology Now focuses on the care, treatment, and management of a wide range of neurological disorders. Written expressly for patients and their families in an easy-to-read style, the magazine features news about the most current research, an array of informative and inspirational patient stories, and helpful tips for living and coping with neurological problems.

In the first three months of publication, Neurology Now has received 10,000 requests for subscriptions from people with an interest in neurological disorders. The circulation is over 300,000. The premiere issue, published in April 2005, featured a cover story about actress Teri Garr who has been living with MS for several years. The summer issue will feature Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and his efforts to "strike out" amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

"We are tremendously pleased and honored to receive this Award," said Robin L. Brey, MD, editor-in-chief of Neurology Now. "We developed Neurology Now to satisfy a need for credible, up-to-date information about neurological disorders for patients and their families. I am particularly gratified that our efforts have proven to be valuable to so many people."

Now in its 15th year, the Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward with projects in education, skills training, standards setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service.

"Neurology Now truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example o
