New journal on the study of the liver to augment medical program

The Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) has chosen Springer as the publisher of its new journal, Hepatology International. Springer will begin publishing the journal in March 2007. The peer-reviewed journal, featuring articles written by clinicians, clinical researchers, and medical professionals, is dedicated to research and patient care issues in hepatology.

The quarterly journal will publish original research articles, covering both clinical aspects and basic research, as well as reviews, selected article summaries, case reports and video submissions. It will focus on new and emerging technologies and advances in liver and biliary disorders. The first issue will be made available to all the delegates of the upcoming APASL Kyoto 2007 meeting in March, and will contain peer-reviewed articles as well as all the abstracts presented at the Kyoto conference.

One of the editors of Hepatology International and Past President of the APASL, Professor Y. F. Liaw, observed, "APASL sought a publisher that could bring the excellent journal content in the field of liver and biliary sciences to the widest possible audience and increase its visibility within the medical community. In Springer, we have found an outstanding publishing partner capable of meeting those goals."

Professor Veena Malhotra, Secretary General of the APASL, commented, "Springer's electronic platform and the Online FirstTM option will ensure that articles are published quickly and efficiently, offering readers access to newly published material before it appears in print."

Springer's President of STM Publishing, Rdiger Gebauer, said, "We are proud to partner with APASL in advancing the growth of the Association and its dissemination of important scientific and clinical information. Springer's strong international publishing programs, particularly in Asia, are further enhanced by the publication of Hepatology International.
