Pharmaceutical industry welcomes Labor Party's Innovation Blueprint

Medicines Australia has welcomed today's release of the Labor Party's Innovation Blueprint Turning Aussie Brilliance into Dollars.

The innovative pharmaceutical industry welcomes the Labor Party's commitment to build Australia's innovative economy through health and medical research.

Australia is at the forefront of global science, and health and medical research, following the bipartisan commitment of successive Australian governments to promote medical innovation.

This latest announcement builds on the bipartisan support for medical research.

Today's announcement correctly identifies partnerships with global biopharmaceutical companies as the key to success for Australian health and medical researchers, and small biotechnology companies.

"Policy proposals to promote partnerships between the Australian medical research community and global biopharmaceutical companies are whole heartedly encouraged and supported by the Industry," Mr Kieran Schneemann, CEO of Medicines Australia, said today.

The recent successes of Australia's medical research community has been based on successive government's support for medical innovation, and strong links with global biopharmaceutical companies, who bring the global expertise and scale required to support the development of Australian innovations.
