Physicians and other healthcare professionals with expertise in quality improvement, disease prevention, and health promotion are gathering for Preventive Medicine 2006 to explore the state of the art in quality improvement and patient safety. Preventive Medicine 2006 is the premier meeting held annually for physicians and other healthcare professionals with an interest in preventive medicine. The forum serves as the annual meeting for the Washington, D.C.-based American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), a national professional society for physicians dedicated to disease prevention and health promotion.

Public attention has focused increasingly on quality and accountability in the U.S. health system, and policymakers, clinicians, and the health care industry have responded with substantial strides in turning rhetoric into action and translating research into practice. This conference will explore the latest innovations across each of these sectors.

For example, innovators, national experts, and policy leaders will discuss the impact on quality of legislative changes like the Medicare Modernization Act. Several sessions will explore the emerging roles of health information technology, including issues and controversies created by health information exchanges. A day-long Healthcare Quality Improvement Institute will address how to build and share best evidence for clinical decision-making.
