Q Chip is collaborating with Biocompatibles International, a medical device company that is focused on the treatment of cardiovascular disease, cancer and benign tumors to develop its next generation of microspheres. These would allow the effective delivery of drugs to targeted parts of the body.

Q Chip makes its uniform particles using tiny capillaries etched in wafers to precisely create micro and nanoparticles. The key advantage of Q Chip's technology is that it can be very accurate about the size, shape and composition of the particles it makes. Using many of these wafers in tandem, it can create particles on a commercial scale and avoid high levels of waste associated with other production techniques. Berry says that other production techniques involve "throwing away a massive amount of waste."

Q Chip's microparticles can also be precision loaded with drugs. "Precision and sophistication is what we offer," says Berry.
