Springer debuts Journal of Robotic Surgery

Springer, one of the world's leading science, technology, and medicine publishers, is launching the Journal of Robotic Surgery. This new journal will be the first to focus exclusively on emerging robotic applications in surgery, and is positioned to become the world's foremost clinical resource for robotic surgical education. Four issues will be published annually, starting January 2007.

The Journal of Robotic Surgery will publish papers on robotic surgical applications in urology, cardiac surgery, gynecology, ENT, neurosurgery, and general surgery. The scope of this new journal is extensive, including original articles, techniques, reviews, simulation and imaging, videos, and educational training. Vipul Patel, MD, Director of The Center for Robotic and Computer Assisted Surgery and Associate Clinical Professor of Urology and Bioinformatics at The Ohio State University, will be Editor-In-Chief. Dr. Patel is an internationally recognized expert in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic urologic surgery.

"The use of robotic techniques is rapidly moving from development to application," said Dr. William F. Curtis, Vice President of Springer's International Clinical Medicine publishing program. "The Journal of Robotic Surgery, under the able leadership of Dr. Patel and his distinguished editorial board, will bring these exciting innovations to surgeons around the world. We are delighted that Springer will play a role in publishing this important new journal."

Dr. Patel added, "Robotic surgery provides the surgeon with increased precision via improved 3D vision and miniature wristed robotic instrumentation, allowing complex, minimally invasive procedures to feel more like open surgery than laparoscopic surgery." He continued, "I am excited about partnering with Springer, a proven publishing leader for the surgery community, to develop and publish this important and unique new journal."
