To be or not to be a scientist

WHAT: Some of the Bay Areas brightest high school and college science students will gather at Childrens Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI) to present the results of 9 weeks of scientific research. Each student experiment - no matter how small - puts us one step closer to finding cures to deadly diseases. This student symposium and reception marks the culmination of the research institutes renowned summer science internship program.

WHY: The Summer Student Research Program is one the few programs in the country to expose young people to significant and complex scientific research. It is the only program of its kind to be continually funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Now in its 17th year, the program matches high school and college students with scientists to conduct real life lab experiments. All 45 students designed and tested their own research and developed their own methodology to research topics ranging from diabetes to sickle cell anemia.
