Top AIDS researchers to discuss latest advances on vaccine development for HIV-1 at academy meeting

Therapeutic approaches to the treatment of HIV/AIDS over the last 25 years have led to the development of numerous drugs that are currently in use and that complement existing prevention programs. But the world is still awaiting the development of a safe and effective vaccine to prevent this devastating disease.

The NY Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition (AVAC), will host an evening symposium, "HIV-1 Vaccines Update - Where Are We Now and Where Are We Headed?" featuring talks by key figures in the pursuit of the elusive goal of developing an HIV vaccine.

Mitchell Warren will make introductory remarks. Jeffrey Laurence will chair the meeting and lead a panel discussion following the presentations.

The NY Academy of Sciences is co-sponsoring this event along with AVAC, a non-profit, community- and consumer-based organization that uses public education, policy analysis, advocacy and community mobilization to accelerate the ethical development and global delivery of vaccine against HIV / AIDS.
