Vicente Fox Center and RAND launch joint program to find policies to combat poverty

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox and RAND Corporation Executive Vice President Michael Rich today signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint research program that will study ways to fight poverty and aid vulnerable groups in Mexico and Latin America.

The signing took place at the Vicente Fox Center of Studies, Library and Museum an organization founded by Fox located near the former presidents ranch in Guanajuato, Mexico. The new research program announced today will be based at the Fox Center.

Studies conducted by the Fox Center and RAND will be published jointly. The Fox Center and RAND will also conduct seminars, conferences and international forums designed to promote democracy, leadership, transparency, gender equality and strategies to fight poverty.

The first study arising out of the new collaboration is scheduled to be completed by fall 2008 and will be titled: Fighting Poverty and Improving Health for the Elderly in Mexico.

RAND Associate Economist Emma Aguila and Director of RAND Labor and Population Arie Kapteyn also spoke at the signing ceremony today.

The Fox Center joins with universities and research institutions to examine ways to preserve and promote democracy in Mexico and all of Latin America.
