Wiley acquires HEED, the world's leading Health Economic Evaluations Database

Chichester, U.K. and Hoboken, N.J. - November 15th, 2006 - John Wiley & Sons, Ltd., announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Health Economic Evaluations Database (HEED), an online source of health economic information and evaluations.

HEED was developed as a joint initiative between the Office of Health Economics (OHE) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA). The database is used by health economists in the pharmaceutical industry, and academic and key healthcare decision makers such as The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).

The acquisition complements Wiley's expanding Health Economics and database portfolio, which includes one of the world's leading journals in Health Economics, Health Economics as well as The Cochrane Library and InfoPOEMs.

Covering more than 34,000 carefully selected evaluations from around 5000 journals and government-funded publications, HEED publishes over 200 records per month online.

"HEED contains more records and content than any other health economics database. Its unique advantages also include searching non-English journals. We are delighted to have the opportunity to apply Wiley's sales and marketing operations to extend the development of this important product," said Deborah Dixon, VP, Business Development and Editorial Director, Medical and Life Sciences. "The acquisition strengthens Wiley's burgeoning health economics portfolio and will help create numerous synergies, including raising Wiley's profile in the health economics market, especially in the U.K."

Gerry Crosbie, Managing Director of HEED, said, "I'm excited and pleased at the prospect of working with the team at Wiley. I don't think we could have found a better home for our product."
